Tekniska verken is the municipal energy and infrastructure company of Linköping, Sweden, providing electricity, district heating, water, waste management, broadband and biogas services. The company traces its roots to 1902, when Linköpings Elektriska Kraft- och Belysningsaktiebolag was founded, the entity that eventually became today’s Tekniska verken.[1]
Design and History
Tekniska verkens logotyp består av en symbol och en ordbild. Symbolen är en uppmjukad stilisering av bokstäverna T och V. Den kan också beskriva ett kretslopp, med delar som samverkar kring en fokuspunkt i mitten.[2]
In recent years, Tekniska verken underwent a significant brand transformation. Working with the consultancy Consid, the company developed a new, unified brand platform, including an updated visual identity, as part of an effort to consolidate most of its operations under a single brand umbrella.[3] The graphic design studio Identitype has also stated involvement in transforming companies including Tekniska verken.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The symbol’s dual interpretation is documented in Tekniska verkens official graphic manual. It functions both as a stylized monogram of the letters T and V, and as a representation of a circular flow (kretslopp), with parts working together around a central focal point.[2] This circular-flow concept aligns with the company’s stated focus on resource efficiency and circular solutions, where resources are used in several steps rather than discarded.[5]
Typography and Design
The current logotype consists of two components: a symbol and a wordmark (ordbild).[2] The graphic manual specifies that the logotype must never be partially or fully covered by images, films or text blocks.[6]
