Phoenix Solar AG was a German photovoltaic systems integrator based in Sulzemoos near Munich. The company was founded in 1999 and operated internationally, designing, building and operating large-scale solar power plants as well as wholesaling complete solar electricity systems and components. [1]
Design and History
The Phoenix Solar visual identity dates to a corporate rebranding in 2007. At the Annual General Meeting held on 25 May 2007, shareholders of Phönix SonnenStrom AG approved changing the company name to Phoenix Solar AG. The company stated that the new name would be launched together with a new logo and a new web presence after entry into the Register of Companies. The rebranding was part of a strategy to operate globally under a single brand name across all countries. [1] [2]
The company reinforced this single-brand approach in December 2008 when its Italian subsidiary RED 2002 srl was renamed Phoenix Solar srl, with the parent company stating that Phoenix Solar aimed to operate globally under one brand. [3]
Phoenix Solar AG filed for insolvency in December 2017, and insolvency proceedings were opened in February 2018. [4] [5]
Meaning and Symbolism
A trademark filed by Phoenix Solar Aktiengesellschaft with the United States Patent and Trademark Office describes the mark as consisting of a semi-circular design circling the letters “PHO” of the wording “PHOENIX SOLAR”. The trademark registration also identifies the design elements as “other representations of the sun” and “incomplete circles (more than semi-circles)”. The trademark application, filed in November 2010, was later abandoned. [6]
No official documentation was found that specifies the exact colors of the Phoenix Solar logo or attributes the design to a particular agency or designer.
