Brother Film Co is a UK-based film and music production company founded by three brothers, Marcus, Luke and Hugo Ellingham, who began making skate films as children and later expanded into commercial production for brands such as McLaren, National Geographic, Nike and Dr. Martens. The company operates from Peckham, South London, and also runs a sister business, Brother Music, for bespoke scores and sound design. [1] [2]
Design and History
Brother Film Co’s original logo was designed in 2014 by the studio See Sea. [3] The mark is described as a symbol incorporating square and rhombus shapes with a ribbon element, and is categorized as a 3D logo using negative space. [3]
In 2021, the company underwent a brand refresh led by the London-based digital studio Mallard & Claret. The project covered both the film business and the new music venture, and included a new website. The refreshed identity introduced a circular logo, which was linked to the user’s scroll position on the site as a quirky interactive detail. The design drew on the graphic vibrancy of the company’s South London neighbourhood, using a collage style to reflect diverse local influences. The website received an Awwwards Site of the Day award. Meaning and Symbolism
The company’s name reflects its founding structure: three brothers who started making films together as a hobby. The founders describe the business as a family operation, with the strap-line “Other companies say they are like a family, we actually are one.” [2] The 2021 circular logo and collage-based identity were designed to reflect the character of the Peckham area where the company is based, rather than to carry a specific symbolic meaning about the business itself.
