Nintendo Cube Co., Ltd., formerly known as Nd Cube and later NDcube, is a Japanese video game developer and subsidiary of Nintendo headquartered in Tokyo with an additional office in Sapporo.[1] The company was originally founded on March 1, 2000, as a joint venture between Nintendo and advertising firm Dentsu, with the “Nd” in the former name reflecting this partnership.[2] Dentsu’s stake was bought out by Nintendo in 2010, and Nintendo now owns 99% of the company.[2]
Design and History
On September 1, 2024, the company was renamed from NDcube to Nintendo Cube Co., Ltd.[3] The name change was made to better reflect the company’s relationship with its parent company, Nintendo, which holds 99% of the studio’s shares.[4]
As part of the rebranding, the company adopted a new logo based on those of Mario Club and 1-UP Studio, using an identical font, but with the company’s pre-established blue color scheme instead of the red or green used by those other Nintendo subsidiaries.[2] The new logo was revealed on the company’s official website alongside the name change announcement.[5]
The current logo is a typographic wordmark that reads “Nintendo Cube” in a clean, straightforward letterform.[6] The official SVG file for the logo is hosted on the company’s website.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2024 logo retains the blue and white colors of the previous NDcube logo.[4] The name “Nintendo Cube” should not be confused with the Nintendo GameCube console, despite the similarity in name.[4]
Typography and Design
The 2024 Nintendo Cube logo uses the same font as the logos of Mario Club and 1-UP Studio, two other Nintendo subsidiaries.[2] The wordmark is rendered in the company’s established blue color scheme, distinguishing it from the red of Mario Club and the green of 1-UP Studio.[2]
