Højer Tæppefabrik was a Danish carpet manufacturer founded in the town of Højer in Southern Jutland. The company traces its roots to a wool spinning mill established in 1877, which was later developed into a carpet factory under the name Sønderjydsk Tæppefabrik.[1] The original factory went bankrupt in 1992, but the name was carried on by a carpet factory in Skævinge.[2]
Design and History
The Højer Tæppefabrik symbol was originally designed in 1960.[3] The mark is described as an arrow logo that incorporates a Denmark arrow shape.[3] The designer of the mark has not been publicly documented.
The company operated under the name Højer Tæppefabrik A/S until at least 2010, when it was registered as HTF Borup A/S in Skævinge.[4] The Højer name continues today as part of Fletco Carpets A/S, which markets a woven carpet product line called Højer Kontrakt® Original, named after the town of Højer.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 1960 logo’s arrow motif with a Denmark shape suggests a national identity, though no official documentation of the intended symbolism has been located. The mark dates from a period when the factory was expanding its export business; by the late 1950s, the company was exporting roughly half of its production to markets including Canada, the United States and Japan.[1]
