Interior Forma is a furniture brand from the United States whose symbol was originally designed by Stephen Dunne at Unimark International in 1963.[1] The mark is catalogued among curve and square logo designs from that year.[1]
Design and History
Unimark International was an international design firm headquartered in Chicago, founded in 1965 by partners including Ralph Eckerstrom, Massimo Vignelli, Bob Noorda, James Fogelman, Wally Gutches, and Larry Klein.[2] The firm specialized in corporate identity systems, branding, and signage, with clients that included American Airlines, Ford Motor Company, Gillette, JC Penney, Knoll, and the New York Transit Authority.[2]
The Interior Forma logo predates Unimark’s official founding year, having been designed in 1963.[1] This places the work in the period when several of Unimark’s future partners were already active in corporate identity design, including Bob Noorda’s 1963-64 work for La Rinascente and Upim department stores.[3]
No documented redesign history for the Interior Forma mark has been found in available sources. The logo is recorded as a single 1963 design attributed to Stephen Dunne at Unimark International.[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
The mark is classified as a curve and square logo design,[1] but no official statement from the designer or the brand explains the meaning of these geometric elements.
