Design and History

In May 2021, Kent Hospital unveiled a new brand identity, including a redesigned logo, tagline, and website, developed under Care New England. The new logo features a design resembling a road, meant to symbolize life’s pathway and the care Kent has offered Rhode Islanders since it opened in 1951. [2] The hospital’s own announcement described the logo as designed to evoke feelings of inspiration and positivity, and to be interpreted as a pathway celebrating life’s journey. [3]

The 2021 rebrand was credited in the American Graphic Design Awards to creative director Elizabeth Rodgers and designer Alex Lebon, with Jessica McCarthy serving as VP of Marketing, PR & Government Relations. [4]

In January 2026, Care New England introduced a new shared brand identity across its system, including Kent Hospital, Butler Hospital, Women & Infants Hospital, and other operating units. The new logo was designed to serve as a visual cue that Care New England can help patients navigate healthcare throughout their life’s journey, while preserving the individual names and identities of each operating unit. [5] The update was reported as introducing a new logo to signal the shared capabilities of the company across its hospitals and care centers. [6]

Meaning and Symbolism

The 2021 Kent Hospital logo was designed to reflect the hospital’s commitment to being a partner in care for every generation of Rhode Islanders. The road-like design was intended to symbolize life’s pathway, connecting Kent’s history with a new era of care. [3] The 2026 Care New England shared logo carries a similar navigational theme, serving as a visual cue that the system can help patients navigate healthcare throughout their life’s journey. [5]
