Progyny is a fertility and family-building benefits platform headquartered in New York City, serving employers with data-driven reproductive care coverage. The company’s visual identity has evolved through two distinct logo generations, documented in U.S. trademark filings.
Design and History
Progyny’s earliest registered logo, filed in 2015, depicted a stylized five-petal flower with overlapping smaller petal shapes in multiple shades of orange, pink, blue, gray, green and purple, with the word “PROGYNY” in black below it. That mark was filed under serial number 86611557.[1]
In March 2018, Progyny filed a new logo trademark that replaced the flower with a symbol of four hollow teardrop petal shapes with their points facing the center to form a cross. The negative space created by the splitting petals also forms a cross. The filing described the mark as a black symbol with a black stylized lowercase word “progyny” beneath it.[2] The same symbol was filed separately in March 2018 without a color claim, indicating the teardrop-cross device was intended for flexible color application.[3]
A related trademark filed in 2018 for “PROGYNY SMARTER FERTILITY BENEFITS FOR EVERYONE” shows the four teardrop shapes with color outlines: red and orange in the uppermost teardrop, yellow and green in the two middle teardrops, and blue and purple in the lowest teardrop.[4]
In 2025, Progyny filed additional trademark applications showing a refined version of the symbol: four teardrop shapes with their points adjacently aligned, where the upper teardrop is half-red and half-orange, the lower teardrop is half-purple and half-blue, the right teardrop is half-yellow and half-green, and the left teardrop is two-thirds black with a notched pink arc.[5] A December 2024 filing for the logo device alone describes the same four hollow teardrop petal shapes forming a cross.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
Progyny has not published an official explanation of the teardrop-cross symbol’s meaning. The trademark records describe only the visual form: four hollow teardrop petal shapes whose points meet at the center, with the negative space between the petals forming a cross.[2][7] Any interpretation of the teardrops as representing fertility journeys or the cross as a medical or health symbol would be speculative and is not documented in available sources.
Typography and Design
The 2018 trademark registration describes the wordmark as a “stylized, lowercase black word ‘PROGYNY'” positioned beneath the teardrop symbol.[2] The specific typeface used in the wordmark has not been identified in official sources. [8]
