Design and History
Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company was incorporated in 1955. [1] The company was formed through an amalgamation of the Canadian Premier Life Insurance Co. and the Dominion General Benefit Association, which occurred on December 31, 1955. [3] Frederick Andrew Lang founded the company in 1955 with Swiss backing and served as its President and Managing Director from 1955 to 1975. [4] [5]
The company later changed its name from The Citadel Life Assurance Company to Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company, effective January 1, 1994. [6] In 2017, Canadian Premier and its affiliates were purchased by Securian Financial Group, Inc., marking Securian Financial’s entry into the Canadian market. [1]
In February 2023, Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company and Canadian Premier General Insurance Company announced their rebrand to Securian Canada, following the completed acquisition of Sun Life’s Sponsored Markets business. The rebrand consolidated Canadian Premier and its sister company Valeyo, Inc. under one brand.
