Continentale Versicherungen, formally the Continentale Versicherungsverbund, is a German insurance group founded in 1926 in Dortmund. The group operates under the brand name “Die Continentale” and includes the EUROPA Versicherungen as a subsidiary brand.[1][2]
Design and History
In 2023, the Continentale underwent a complete brand and design relaunch. The project was led by the German design agency Damm & Bierbaum, which was tasked with modernizing the insurer’s visual identity while preserving its heritage. The agency noted that despite its modernity, the Continentale had become visually and communicatively “outdated,” prompting the comprehensive refresh.[3]
The relaunch was built around the idea of connecting the company’s origins with its future. A central element of the new corporate design is a color gradient that seamlessly blends the classic “Continentale Blue” with a new shade called “Continentale Ambas.” This gradient appears throughout the visual language, from design elements to corporate wording.[4]
As part of the redesign, Damm & Bierbaum developed an exclusive corporate typeface for the Continentale, which is used across all brand communications.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2023 relaunch was guided by the principle of “rethinking the familiar.” The design concept emphasizes the connection between heritage and future, with the color gradient serving as the most prominent example. The blend of the traditional “Continentale Blue” with the new “Continentale Ambas” color visually represents this continuity, linking the company’s established identity with its forward-looking direction.[4]
Typography and Design
As part of the 2023 brand relaunch, Damm & Bierbaum developed a custom corporate typeface exclusively for the Continentale. This bespoke font was created to support the new visual language across all brand touchpoints, from print to digital media.[3]
