Farmers Insurance is a U.S. insurer group covering automobiles, homes and small businesses, tracing its roots to 1928 in Los Angeles. Its corporate logo has evolved through two documented redesigns, most recently in 2013 and again in 2026, while retaining the sunrise and shield imagery that has anchored the brand for nearly a century.
Design and History
Farmers Insurance introduced its first logo in 1928, the year the company was founded. That inaugural design featured a sunrise, which the company said represented the optimism of a new day. Roughly 30 years later, a shield image was added to the sunrise to symbolize protection. Together, the sunrise and shield represented an organization that confidently safeguarded its customers.[1]
In July 2013, Farmers unveiled a new corporate logo, its first change since the 1950s. The redesign was led by New York City-based Lippincott, the creative partner behind the new mark.[1] The new logo kept the sun and shield elements but gave them a sleeker, more contemporary look.[2] Farmers’ chief marketing officer at the time, Mike Linton, described the logo as “evolutionary rather than revolutionary,” noting that the previous mark had been last updated in the 1950s, before television, the Web and mobile devices became key brand touchpoints.[1]
In July 2026, Farmers introduced another refresh as part of a broader brand transformation. The company said the change extended to its visual identity and communications, introducing “a more modern, distinctive brand experience” that would remain “unmistakably Farmers.”[3] The updated branding features simplified layouts, approachable typography, a high-contrast color palette and a distinctive pink hue intended to enhance differentiation and memorability.[4] The campaign work was created with Dentsu Creative, which had been named Farmers’ creative agency of record in April 2026.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The documented symbolism of the Farmers Insurance logo centers on two elements. The sunrise, present in the company’s first 1928 logo, represents the optimism of a new day. The shield, added roughly 30 years later, symbolizes protection.[1] Both elements were retained in the 2013 redesign and remain central to the brand’s identity.[2]
The 2026 refresh introduced a distinctive pink as a new brand color, a deliberate departure from the blues and grays common in the insurance category.[6] Farmers’ head of creative, Eleanor Solomon, tied the visual change to the brand’s goal of standing out amid a “sea of sameness” in insurance advertising.[6]
Typography and Design
Farmers’ 2026 brand refresh introduced approachable typography and a high-contrast color palette as part of its updated visual identity, according to the company’s official announcement.[3] The specific typeface used in the current wordmark has not been publicly documented by Farmers or its design partners.
