City Investment Trust is a United Kingdom investment trust brand whose symbol was originally designed by Ken Garland in 1971.[1] The mark is catalogued among rounded, monogram and dot-style logos.[1]
Design and History
Ken Garland established his own studio, Ken Garland & Associates, in 1962.[2] Over its 47-year history, the studio produced work for clients including Which? Magazine, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, The Butterley Group, Race Furniture, the Labour Party, Paramount Pictures and Galt Toys.[3] The City Investment Trust identity was one of the studio’s projects from 1971.[1]
Garland’s approach to identity work was not rigid. Discussing his work for Galt Toys, he noted that although the same logo was used, the studio “twisted it round and did umpteen versions of it and never let it stay the same.”[4] His studio ethos was to stay small and closely engaged with clients.[5]
