BELIMO is a Swiss manufacturer of field devices for the energy-efficient control of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. Founded in 1975 and headquartered in Hinwil, Switzerland, the company has been listed on the Swiss Exchange (SIX) since 1995. The BELIMO name derives from three German words: Beraten (consulting), Liefern (delivering), and Montieren (installing).
Design and History
The current BELIMO logo consists of the wordmark “BELIMO” with two parallel quadrilateral shapes positioned above the letters “MO.” This description is documented in a trademark filing for BELIMO Holding AG, which states: “The mark consists of the wording ‘BELIMO’ with two parallel quadrilateral shapes above the ‘MO’ in BELIMO.” [1]
Belimo’s official media resources list three logo variants for download: Belimo Orange/Black, Belimo Black, and Belimo White. [2] The orange and black version is the primary color treatment, with the black and white versions serving as monochrome alternatives.
The two stripes in the logo have been noted as a distinctive element of the corporate identity. A design firm that created an exhibition stand for Belimo at the VSK trade fair in 2018 described using “the two stripes in the logo” as inspiration for orange visual elements flanking the stand, and noted that “the round shapes of the Belimo font” were incorporated into the overall design. [3]
A trademark registration for a “BELIMO Logo” was filed in Taiwan on October 1, 1998, and registered on May 16, 2000, indicating that a logo mark has been in official use since at least that period. [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
Orange is the defining brand color of Belimo. A Swiss financial analysis publication described the company as “unmistakable: logo and products carry the color orange,” comparing its visual prominence to that of Migros, the Swiss retail giant known for its orange branding. [5] The same source notes that Belimo’s small devices, despite their unassuming appearance apart from the color, have a significant functional impact in regulating air supply and exhaust, controlling air quality, and balancing pressure conditions in buildings.
An architecture firm that designed a Belimo warehouse expansion described using “the orange brand colour of Belimo as a strong contrast to the grey color” of the building, confirming that orange functions as the company’s recognizable brand color in built environments as well. [6]
Typography and Design
Documented observations about the logo’s typography are limited. The exhibition design firm that worked with Belimo noted that the logo features “round shapes” in the letterforms, which were echoed in the stand design. [3] No official source identifies the specific typeface used in the BELIMO wordmark, and no designer or agency attribution for the logo has been publicly documented.
