EssilorLuxottica SA is a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses, formed in 2018 through the merger of French lens maker Essilor International and Italian eyewear group Luxottica.[1] The company is headquartered in Charenton-le-Pont, France.[2]
Design and History
Essilor officially became the parent company of Luxottica and was renamed EssilorLuxottica on 1 October 2018. Coinciding with the announcement, a new visual identity and corporate website for EssilorLuxottica was launched.[3]
In early 2022, the group introduced a new corporate logo as part of a rebranding effort. EssilorLuxottica stated that it had redefined its identity and culture as an integrated company through a rebranding that reflected the group’s increasingly rapid growth, communicating its image through a minimalist and timeless look.[4] The change was reflected in the restyled logo, which the company said expressed a sense of purity and modernity across all of the group’s assets and communications.[4] The company described 2021 as a fundamental year, “a milestone” in its new path as an integrated company.[4]
With the new logo, the marketing division of EssilorLuxottica aimed to underpin “the identity and culture of the company’s new unified organization.”[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The current EssilorLuxottica logo is a typographic wordmark without an emblem, featuring the brand name in black.[6] The company’s stated intent for the 2022 update was to convey a minimalist, timeless appearance and a sense of purity and modernity.[4]
Typography and Design
The wordmark uses a modern, clean, geometric sans-serif typeface.[6] The design is limited to the brand name in title case, with no additional iconography or color accents.[6]
Logo Index is an independent educational archive covering logos, visual identities and graphic design history. All trademarks and brand assets remain the property of their respective owners.
