Design and History

Burton Kramer, born in 1932 in New York City, was educated at the Institute of Design in Chicago and Yale University before establishing Kramer Design Associates Limited in late 1967.[3][1] The firm specialized in corporate identity programs, and the Gentil Plastics Lindsay mark was among its projects from 1969.[2]

Kramer’s identity work from this period is documented in the Burton Kramer collection at the Rochester Institute of Technology, which holds samples of work produced by Kramer Design Associates from the late 1960s through the late 1990s.[4] His broader portfolio includes identity projects for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CIBC, Metro Toronto, the National Research Council, the Royal Ontario Museum and Onex Packaging.[3]

Meaning and Symbolism

The Gentil Plastics Lindsay logo is categorized as a curved and rounded mark, reflecting the geometric abstraction characteristic of Kramer’s graphic design work.[2] Kramer’s paintings and graphic designs are described as expressing lyrical, geometric abstraction through a harmonic interplay of syncopated shapes of various sizes and colors.[5] No official documentation of specific symbolic meaning for the Gentil Plastics Lindsay mark has been located.
