Gilcodan was a Danish textiles company based in Skovlunde, a suburb of Copenhagen. The firm operated under the name Gilcodan A/S at Mileparken 20, 2740 Skovlunde, and was active in the manufacture and trade of textile goods, registering trademarks in class 25 (clothing) during the 1980s.[1][2]
Design and History
The Gilcodan symbol was originally designed by Danish commercial artist Adam Moltke in 1970.[3] Moltke worked as a commercial artist in Denmark in the 1940s and 1950s, with his work appearing in international design publications such as Graphis.[4]
The mark is classified as a monogram logo featuring a dot shape, a common approach in Scandinavian branding of the period.[3] The company name itself combines “Gilco” with “Dan,” a reference to Denmark, and the firm was known by the telegraphic address “Gilcodan” in business directories.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The logo is described as a monogram-style symbol incorporating a dot element, consistent with the minimalist visual language common to Danish corporate identity work of its era.[3]
