Hikvision, formally Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., Ltd., is a Chinese technology company founded in 2001 that focuses on security and AIoT (AI-powered Internet of Things) technologies.[1] The company’s visual identity centers on a typographic wordmark in red and gray, a design that has been refined over time to support its international expansion.
Design and History
The current Hikvision logo is the result of a brand upgrade undertaken to support the company’s internationalization process. According to official brand resource materials, the new mark was refined while preserving the original visual characteristics of the earlier logo. The update unified the color of the Chinese and English versions of the logo, making the overall form more elegant, standardized, and international.[2]
The redesign also shortened the spacing between characters, which was described as reflecting a more cohesive relationship between the company and its customers, as well as internally among employees. The flowing, curved line forms were intended to convey vitality and dynamism, reflecting the company’s spirit of continuous innovation.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
Hikvision’s official brand documentation describes the logo’s symbolism in specific terms. The overall form was shaped to be steady and harmonious, expressing the company’s core philosophy of “professionalism, solidity, integrity, and technology caring for the future.” The balanced, powerful strokes of the lettering are said to highlight strong R&D capability and excellent product quality.[2]
The red and gray color combination is described as lively and flexible, expressing the company’s culture of working hard, staying positive, and maintaining enjoyment in work. The official standard colors are specified as red (China red) with CMYK values of M100 Y100 K10, and gray at K70.[2]
The rounded modifications to the letterforms were intended to make the shape more graceful and fluid, symbolizing smooth communication between the company, its customers, and employees, and reflecting values of people-orientation, attention to detail, and encouragement of innovation.[2]
Typography and Design
The Hikvision logo is a typographic wordmark that places the brand name at the center of the identity. Official brand guidelines require that the first occurrence of “HIKVISION” in any text be in all uppercase letters with the registered trademark symbol, i.e., “HIKVISION®.”[3]
The logo is treated as a regulated whole: official guidelines state that its shape, structure, and proportions must not be altered. A minimum size of 3 millimeters is specified for legibility, and a clear space protection area must be maintained around the mark in all applications.[2]
