MyNetworkTV is an American commercial broadcast television syndication service and former television network, owned by Fox Corporation through its Fox Television Stations subsidiary.[1] The service launched on September 5, 2006, after Fox Television Stations announced in February 2006 that it would create a new network to provide programming for its UPN stations that were losing their affiliation when UPN and The WB merged to form The CW.[2]

Design and History

The MyNetworkTV logo has remained in use since the network’s September 2006 launch.[3] The mark is a square container holding the wordmark, with “My” capitalized and “NetworkTV” in lowercase except for “TV.” The design uses a blue color scheme with lighter blue gradient accents and gray elements.[4]

In the months before launch, Fox-owned stations began re-branding to reflect the coming network. WWOR in New York became “My 9,” and KDFI in Dallas became “My 27,” with other stations gradually adopting similar labels through the summer of 2006.[2] At the time of the announcement, My Network TV said it would “maintain and strengthen affiliates’ community brand recognition with a complete look and feel of a national network that empowers localism.”[2]

Some affiliates adapted the network logo for their own branding. For example, WSBK-TV in Boston used both the “My” branding and its existing “TV 38” branding, with a logo patterned after the MyNetworkTV logo but with the blue in the lower right corner replaced with the orange of the station’s “TV 38” logo.[5]

Typography and Design

The MyNetworkTV wordmark is set in ITC Avant Garde Gothic, a geometric sans-serif typeface originally designed by Herb Lubalin.[3] The logo artwork was published in September 2006, coinciding with the network’s launch.[3]

Brand color data for MyNetworkTV lists several blue tones, including a deep cerulean shade and lighter blue variants, along with a gray tone.[4]
