Seven One is the brand name used by the Seven. One Entertainment Group, the German entertainment company headquartered in Unterföhring near Munich that operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE. The company adopted the Seven. One name and a new visual identity on 1 October 2020, when the entertainment activities of ProSiebenSat.1 were formally consolidated under the Seven. One Entertainment Group umbrella. The rebranding also introduced the company’s use of the .one top-level domain across its communications and email addresses. [1]
Design and History
The Hamburg-based brand agency MUTABOR developed the new corporate design for the entire Seven. One group, including all subsidiary companies. The redesign was driven by the company’s repositioning as a platform-independent content provider. The most visible change was the insertion of a point into the wordmark, turning “SevenOne” into “Seven.One.” This typographic detail was intended to signal the company’s digital orientation. [2] [3]
All B2B brands within the group were brought together under a single branding concept. The redesigned logos of the individual companies share a common brand icon and the “Seven. One” name, creating a clear relationship to the parent group and sister brands, while each subsidiary retains its own individual wordmark. [2] [3]
The new identity was rolled out on 1 October 2020 across the website seven.one and all on- and offline advertising materials. [2] [3]
Prior to the 2020 rebranding, the company operated under the name SevenOne Media. In March 2011, SevenOne Media introduced a new corporate design that aligned its visual identity with the ProSiebenSat.1 group. The company dropped its previous blue color scheme in favor of red, white and gray, and the logo was restructured so that the arrow-with-dot symbol appeared before the wordmark, with the words “SevenOne Media” stacked more compactly. The redesign was realized by the SevenOne Media Design & Creation and Brand Management teams together with the Creative Solutions division of ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland and the agency MAGMA Brand Design. Meaning and Symbolism
The group icon introduced in the 2020 redesign is described as a transformed version of the earlier mark that can take on different graphical states depending on the company using it. According to MUTABOR, the icon symbolizes the infinite possibilities and the “One idea” of the group. It has no beginning and no end, consisting of an endless line. [2] [3]
The point integrated into the wordmark “Seven. One” was a deliberate design decision reflecting the company’s digital positioning, and it also mirrors the company’s adoption of the .one top-level domain. [2] [3]
Typography and Design
For the 2020 rebrand, MUTABOR worked with type designer René Bieder to develop two customized typefaces based on existing retail fonts. The custom fonts feature refined angular terminals, circular punctuation, redesigned diacritics and a distinctive unicase character set. An OpenType-based randomizer prevents adjacent unicase letterforms, creating a more balanced and dynamic typographic texture across the brand. [6]
