STVR Jednotka is the first television channel of Slovenská televízia a rozhlas (STVR), the Slovak public broadcaster that replaced RTVS on 1 July 2024. The channel’s current visual identity is part of a broader rebranding of STVR that began with the introduction of a new corporate logo in January 2026 and continued with a full on-air visual identity for the channel launched on 11 September 2026. Design and History
The STVR corporate logo and the logos of its organizational units, including the television channel Jednotka, were officially presented on 28 January 2026. The logo was created internally at STVR as an in-house proposal, with the conceptual design attributed to STVR Director General Martina Flašíková. The broadcaster stated that the logo and concept incurred no external financial costs. [1] [3]
The new on-air visual identity for Jednotka, along with the other STVR television services Dvojka, :24 and Šport, was presented in August 2026 and appeared in broadcasts from 11 September 2026. The identity was designed as a dynamic system rather than a static logo, intended to be used across transitions, graphics and other parts of the broadcast. [2] [4]
The visual change marked a deliberate departure from the graphics long associated with RTVS, whose visual hallmark was a colon symbol that connected the broadcaster’s program services. The new identity instead builds on the signal motif introduced with the STVR corporate logo. [2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The central motif of the STVR identity is called “Signál” (Signal). It derives from the letter S in the STVR logo and, according to the broadcaster, can function in the visual system as a wave, impulse, sequence or echo. STVR marketing and communications director Jana Prágerová explained the choice: “We chose Signal because it precisely captures the essence of our work, which is the transmission of information, image and emotion.” [2]
Flašíková described the signal as the fundamental element working across all STVR channels, encompassing television, radio, digital, satellite, terrestrial and online distribution of content to the public. [1]
For Jednotka specifically, the identity is embodied through a physical object in the shape of the number 1, several meters tall, placed in everyday environments across Slovakia among people of different generations. [2] [4]
Typography and Design
STVR stated that a strong graphic element of the new identity is a supplementary typeface from which the logos of individual program services, including television channels, are derived. According to the broadcaster, this is a unique, original font developed specifically for the former RTVS, which had seen minimal use and which STVR decided to fully utilize. [1] [3]
