TVP ABC is the children’s channel of Telewizja Polska (TVP), Poland’s public broadcaster. The channel launched on 15 February 2014 and targets young viewers, primarily preschoolers and early primary school students.[1]
Design and History
The original TVP ABC visual identity was created by the Polish design studio Minds Up, which designed the channel’s graphic identity at its launch in 2014.[2][3] The logo’s three letters “A,” “B” and “C” were rendered in blue, green and orange respectively, and were designed to transform into cartoon characters or animals that could change across different on-screen scenarios.[2]
These letter-animals, known in Polish as literkowe zwierzaki, became the channel’s brand heroes from the very beginning of its broadcast.[1] The characters were identified in Polish media as Anakonda (Anaconda), Bociek (Stork) and Cielaczek (Calf), each formed from one of the three letters.[4]
On 1 June 2021, coinciding with Children’s Day, TVP ABC launched a new logotype and a new on-air graphic design. The new visual package continued to feature the familiar letter-animals, now shown performing various playful activities.[5][1] The 2021 refresh also introduced a new website for parents at abc.tvp.pl.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The core concept of the TVP ABC identity is the transformation of the channel’s name into friendly animal characters. The letters “ABC” were designed to become cartoon figures that could adapt and change across different programming scenes, giving the brand an imaginative and playful character suited to its young audience.[3] The letter-animals served as the station’s brand heroes from the start of broadcasting, providing continuity between the original 2014 identity and the 2021 redesign.[1]
