Dechra is a global specialist veterinary pharmaceuticals business whose corporate identity is built around the tagline “The Veterinary Perspective.” The company’s visual identity is managed through a detailed set of brand guidelines that govern the use of its logo, colours, typography and supporting design elements.
Design and History
The Dechra logo is a wordmark accompanied by a standalone “D” device. The brand guidelines describe a “D-shaped device” that is often used to contain brand imagery and species icons, and the “D” part of the logo is treated as a distinct element that can appear on its own in certain applications, such as video content.[1][2]
Dechra and the Dechra “D” logo are registered trademarks of Dechra Pharmaceuticals PLC, as stated in the company’s annual financial reports and regulatory announcements.[3]
The current brand positioning, “The Veterinary Perspective,” is described in Dechra’s official brand guidelines as reflecting a focus on veterinary professionals and their daily challenges.[4] The brand guidelines note that the secondary colour palette “reflects Dechra’s new brand positioning ‘The Veterinary Perspective’,” indicating that the current visual identity was introduced alongside this repositioning.[5]
Dechra’s corporate history dates back to 1819, when the company was founded as Arnolds & Son, originally manufacturing limb prosthetics before turning to veterinary medicine during the Crimean War.[6] The modern Dechra Pharmaceuticals PLC was incorporated in 1997.[7]
Meaning and Symbolism
The brand guidelines do not document a specific symbolic meaning for the “D” device itself. However, they establish that the “D-shaped device” is a core Dechra brand asset used to contain imagery and species icons across brand-led communications.[1] The guidelines also specify that the “Veterinary Perspective” tagline should accompany the Dechra corporate logo in brand-led assets, reinforcing the company’s positioning as a partner to veterinary professionals.[8]
Typography and Design
Dechra’s brand typeface is Poppins, which the brand guidelines state “should be used without exception, unless unavailable in the chosen language.” For languages where Poppins is not available, such as Korean, the guidelines direct users to replace it with Noto Sans KR.[9]
The primary colour palette consists of three core colours: Dechra Blue (HEX #003B71, Pantone 541 C), Black and Grey.[5] The logo may only be used in white, Dechra blue, or black for mono use.[2] A secondary colour palette, introduced alongside the “Veterinary Perspective” positioning, adds lighter blue, purple, green and teal tones for use in market-facing communications.[5]
The brand guidelines specify that the Dechra logo should be positioned in the top-left corner wherever possible and must never be used in the centre of an asset. The minimum size for the standard logo is 25 mm in height.[2]
