Biocon Limited is an Indian biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Bengaluru, founded in 1978 by Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw. The company describes itself as a global biopharmaceutical organization focused on affordable innovation in diabetes, cancer and autoimmune disease treatments, reaching patients in over 120 countries.[1]
Design and History
Biocon’s current corporate logo consists of two zig-zag lines with rounded angles accompanied by the wordmark “BIOCON.”[2] The same two-line device appears in related trademark filings for Biocon Biologics Limited, described as two zig-zag shaped lines close together.[3]
The current identity dates to a rebranding undertaken in 2004, ahead of Biocon’s initial public offering. At that time, Biocon had grown from an industrial enzymes manufacturer into a global biopharmaceutical company and needed a brand identity that would realign with its shifted business focus.[4] The assignment went to Bangalore-based TSK Design, led by founder and design director Tania Singh Khosla.[4][5] The result was a new Biocon logo featuring a double helix motif, along with communication materials that reflected the company’s repositioned identity.[4] TSK Design’s portfolio describes the project as “building an enduring identity for India’s biotech pioneer.”[6]
Biocon’s official website currently displays the two-line mark alongside the wordmark, and the company’s brand colors include a blue tone identified as Havelock Blue.[7]
Meaning and Symbolism
The double helix form in the logo, created during the 2004 rebrand, visually references the structure of DNA, aligning the mark with the company’s biotechnology focus.[4] The trademark registration describes the device simply as two zig-zag lines with rounded angles, without assigning additional symbolic meaning.[2]
