Cabify is a Spanish ride-hailing and mobility technology company founded in 2011 in Madrid. The company operates across multiple countries in Europe and Latin America, offering private car services, taxis, scooters, and other mobility options through its app. Cabify’s visual identity has undergone two significant redesigns since its founding, first in 2017 and again in 2021.
Design and History
Cabify’s original logo, used from the company’s 2011 founding, featured black and orange colors. In February 2017, the company unveiled a complete visual rebrand under the hashtag #CabifyPurple, shifting its color palette to purple and introducing a redesigned “C” symbol. The new mark featured a thick-bordered “C” with a pointed lower extension, designed to be more recognizable than the previous logo. The company stated that the symbol represented movement and reflected the daily journey shared by passengers and drivers. The 2017 redesign was developed by an external team and marked the first visual change since the company’s creation. [1] [2] [3]
In September 2021, Cabify introduced its current visual identity, developed entirely by its internal design team, which had grown to 25 people. The new logo dropped the standalone “C” symbol and shifted to a typographic wordmark built around a custom letterform. According to Carlos Tallón, Cabify’s vice president of design, the logo was constructed to read as a “journey” or route, which is why the wordmark uses a modern single-story “a” rather than a traditional double-story form. The team chose this approach after brand perception studies showed 99% recognition of the wordmark in Spain and similarly high recognition in Latin America, confirming that audiences read the logo as a whole rather than letter by letter. [4]
The 2021 redesign was motivated by practical concerns. Tallón noted that the 2017 logo was difficult to apply across media, was never designed for animation, and had spawned at least five different graphic identity variations across sub-brands. The internal team also found that the vibrant purple color worked well digitally but could not be reliably reproduced in print. The redesign aimed to consolidate these inconsistencies while preserving elements that were working. [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
Cabify’s brand color is called “Moradul,” a name the company coined for its signature purple. In the 2017 redesign, the company moved away from its previous black, white, and yellow palette to embrace purple as its primary identifier. The 2017 “C” symbol was described by the company as representing movement and the journey that passengers and drivers share daily. [2] [5]
In the 2021 wordmark, the single-story “a” was chosen deliberately to evoke the idea of a route or trajectory, reinforcing the brand’s focus on mobility. The rounded forms of the earlier 2017 identity were described by the company as reflecting the care involved in its service. [4] [6]
Typography and Design
Cabify’s 2021 wordmark uses a custom typeface called Cabify Brand, developed by designer Lole Román. Its use is restricted to logo extensions and sub-brands derived from the parent brand, such as “Cabify para empresas” or “Powered by Cabify.” For broader communications, Cabify uses a modified version of the Circular typeface from Lineto, which the company licenses as “Cabify Circular.” The modification involves replacing the humanist double-story “a” with a modern single-story form to match the logo’s design language. [4]
In 2025, Cabify refined its color system while keeping Moradul as the central brand color. The company expanded Moradul’s usage from 50% to 70% of brand applications and transitioned its color modeling from HSL to the OKLCH color space for more predictable contrast and accessibility. The palette was streamlined from eleven colors to ten, and shade naming was simplified. Moradul’s primary shade corresponds to Pantone 266C for print reproduction. [5]
