DocuSign, the San Francisco-based electronic signature and agreement management company, introduced a completely new visual identity on April 11, 2024, as part of its repositioning around Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM). The rebrand was announced alongside the launch of the Docusign IAM platform and a new brand promise, “Bringing Agreements to Life.” [1] [2]
Design and History
The current DocuSign logo consists of two parts: the Nexus icon and a wordmark, which must always be used together. The Nexus icon is described by DocuSign as representing a convergence, showing two shapes coming together to form the shape of an agreement in the center. [3]
According to DocuSign’s head of Brand and Creative, the mark combines a capital “D” in bright Poppy overlapping with an agreement in rich Cobalt blue. At the intersection, the colors merge into what the company calls “The Shape of Agreements.” [1]
The 2024 rebrand was driven by a strategic shift. DocuSign’s previous brand was heavily associated with eSignature, and the company stated it needed a new identity to emphasize its full intelligent agreement management category offering. The work was completed by DocuSign’s in-house brand and creative team over roughly four months. [1] The agency BASIC/DEPT® documented the rebrand’s launch story but confirmed the identity itself was created in-house. [4]
Before the 2024 identity, DocuSign had introduced a new logo in 2019 as part of a brand evolution, rolling it out across product development teams including Signing, Sending, Email, Mobile Apps, and Admin. [5] The 2019 mark featured a yellow arrow-to-line icon and a wordmark in CamelCase. [6]
Meaning and Symbolism
DocuSign’s official brand guidelines describe the logo as representing how agreements come together between parties, highlighting the collaborative foundation of the brand and product. The logo is described as conveying trust, confidence, and connection. [3]
The Nexus icon is called “the heart of our logo” in the brand guidelines. The company explains that the two overlapping shapes form the shape of an agreement in the center, a concept DocuSign refers to as “The Shape of Agreements.” [3] [1]
Typography and Design
The DocuSign wordmark is based on Docusign Indigo, a proprietary custom typeface created for the company. The letterforms were further customized for the logo: the “d” and “i” have angular stems similar to the agreement shape in the Nexus icon, the “u” and “s” were adjusted to sit side-by-side as a balanced anchor, and all letterforms have slightly rounded inktraps at their joints. [3] [7]
Docusign Indigo is described in the brand guidelines as “a happy medium between classic grotesque and geometric sans” that feels modern and digital. It is used across every brand touchpoint, with Helvetica and Arial designated as system fallbacks for technical circumstances where the custom typeface cannot be used. [7]
The brand’s official color palette includes Cobalt (Hex 4C00FF) as the primary brand color, with Poppy (Hex FF5252) used sparingly as an accent color. The 2024 rebrand introduced a broader spectrum including Inkwell, Deep Violet, Mist, and Ecru, with the company noting its previous visual system reflected office supplies and analog paperwork methods.
