The Jamaica national football team, governed by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), competes under a crest that draws directly from the national flag. The team, nicknamed the Reggae Boyz, is a member of CONCACAF and represents the island nation in international competition.
Design and History
The Jamaica national team badge is a shield-style emblem in black, green and yellow, based on the Jamaican flag. It features a yellow saltire (diagonal cross) across a black and green field, with a green circular centre carrying the words “Football Jamaica Federation” and “Jamaica.” The colours and diagonal cross come directly from Jamaica’s national flag, making the badge a clear expression of national identity. The central circle gives the emblem a football-federation structure while keeping the flag as the dominant visual reference.[1]
The JFF crest has appeared on the left chest of Jamaica’s kits for decades, including the historic 1998 World Cup campaign when the team first qualified for the tournament.[2] In 2024, the JFF and Adidas launched new home and away kits for both the men’s and women’s national teams, with the JFF crest sitting between two doctor birds, Jamaica’s national bird.[3]
Adidas has been the kit manufacturer for Jamaica since 2023, following previous partnerships with Umbro, Romai Sports, Kappa, Uhlsport and Lanzera. The iconic diagonal cross design has remained constant across these manufacturer changes.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The crest’s colours and diagonal cross come directly from Jamaica’s national flag. The flag’s gold saltire divides the field into four triangles: green at the top and bottom, black on the sides. In 1996, the official meanings of the flag colours were established as gold for natural wealth and sunshine, green for hope and lush vegetation, and black for the strength and creativity of the Jamaican people.[4]
The 2024 kit launch also highlighted the doctor bird, Jamaica’s national bird, flanking the JFF crest on the jersey.[3]
Typography and Design
The crest’s central circular element carries the federation’s name, “Football Jamaica Federation,” along with “Jamaica.” The shield shape and circular centre follow a conventional football-federation badge structure, with the flag’s saltire serving as the dominant visual element.[1]
The team’s official colours are recorded as Flag Green (#009639), Flag Gold (#FFD100) and Black (#2D2926), matching the national flag palette.[5]
