TUTO Hockey is the ice hockey section of Turun Toverit, a Finnish sports club founded in 1929 and based in Turku. The team competes in Mestis, Finland’s second-tier ice hockey league, and plays its home games at Rajupaja Areena (formerly OS/G Areena) on Kupittaa. The club’s colors are blue, white, and red.
Design and History
For many years, TUTO did not use a traditional team crest on its jerseys. Instead, the team wore jerseys featuring a “TUTO” wordmark in front, a practice that set it apart from most other clubs in the league. This changed in 2011, when the team adopted its current logo and began using it on the jerseys. Prior to that change, TUTO had also been one of the few teams in Mestis to play its home games in white jerseys, a tradition that ended when the team started using the new logo on its playing uniforms.[1]
The 2011 rebrand came about through a partnership between TUTO Hockey and OS/G (OjalaSaariGroup), a Turku-based marketing communications company. Announced on September 9, 2011, the collaboration was intended to develop a new kind of TUTO brand. OS/G refined the club’s graphic identity and updated the logo as part of a broader push to reinvigorate the traditional brand and pursue promotion back to SM-liiga, Finland’s top division. The same announcement renamed the club’s home arena, Kupittaan monitoimihalli, to OS/G Areena.[2][3]
The club’s parent organization, Turun Toverit, was founded in 1929. The ice hockey department later became a separate company, TUTO Hockey Oy, which was established in 1988. The team has played in Mestis continuously since 2000, with earlier stints in the league’s predecessor, I-divisioona, and two seasons in SM-liiga from 1994 to 1996.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The current TUTO Hockey logo features a polar bear, an animal associated with strength and determination. The bear is rendered in the club’s blue and white colors, with red accents completing the palette.[1] The club’s official colors are listed as blue, white, and red on the Mestis league website.[4]
Prior to the 2011 update, the team’s visual identity relied primarily on the “TUTO” wordmark rather than a pictorial emblem. The shift to a polar bear logo marked a deliberate move toward a more distinctive, symbol-driven identity for the club.[1]
Typography and Design
The 2011 logo update was carried out by OS/G, which refined TUTO’s graphic identity as part of the broader branding collaboration announced in September 2011. The agency’s work covered both the logo and the club’s wider visual presentation.[2] Specific details about the typography used in the current logo have not been publicly documented.
