KGHM Zagłębie Lubin is a Polish football club based in Lubin, a copper-mining town in Lower Silesia. The club’s visual identity is built around its official colors of copper (orange), white, and green, which the club itself describes as “miedziano-biało-zielone” (copper-white-green).[1]
Design and History
The club’s crest is a circular emblem. At its center is a shield that replicates the coat of arms of the Lubin commune, featuring a black eagle and a castle tower.[2] This central shield is placed on a field with vertical green and white stripes, and the whole emblem is surrounded by a ring bearing the inscription “ZAGŁĘBIE LUBIN SA.”[3]
The club’s connection to the city’s coat of arms is documented: the 1968 version of Lubin’s coat of arms, which depicted a black Gothic eagle and a red tower, has been preserved in the logo of the Zagłębie Lubin sports club.[2]
In 2007, when the club changed its name to KGHM Zagłębie Lubin following the sponsorship of the copper mining company KGHM, the club’s crest was not changed.[4]
For the club’s 75th anniversary in 2021, a special jubilee logo was introduced as part of the #75latZL campaign.[5] The club also wore commemorative gold kits that featured a crest styled to resemble the one used in the 1960s, a nod to the decade when copper deposits were discovered in the Lubin region.[6]
For the 2025/2026 season, which marks the club’s 80th anniversary, the club again introduced a special jubilee crest.[7] The home kit for that season features an updated “ZL” monogram combined with an element from the central part of the club’s crest, presented in a special version to highlight the jubilee season.[1]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s colors directly reference the copper industry that defines the Lubin region. The club’s official colors are described as copper, white, and green,[1] and the club’s nickname, “Miedziowi” (The Coppers), reflects this heritage.[8] The central shield in the crest, derived from the Lubin coat of arms, ties the club’s identity to its city and region.[2]
Typography and Design
The club’s crest features a circular ring with the inscription “ZAGŁĘBIE LUBIN SA.”[3] The club’s official website and kit releases confirm that the crest’s central shield pattern has been used as a design motif on match jerseys, including the third kit for the 2025/2026 season, which the club describes as a tribute to mining traditions.[9]
