The Lock Haven Bald Eagles are the intercollegiate sports teams of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, located in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. The university competes primarily at the NCAA Division II level as a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), with field hockey and wrestling competing at the Division I level as affiliate members of the Atlantic 10 Conference and Mid-American Conference respectively.[1]
Design and History
The Lock Haven athletic identity centers on a bald eagle emblem and official logo, paired with the team name “Lock Haven Bald Eagles.”[2] The official colors are crimson and white.[3]
In 2022, Lock Haven University became part of Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, an integration that also included Bloomsburg and Mansfield universities. Despite the administrative merger, Lock Haven retained its location name, existing logos, colors, mascot, and athletic traditions.[4] The NCAA approved the plan to keep each campus’s athletic programs independent, with all programs continuing to use their respective location names and existing branding.[4]
In 2026, the court inside Thomas Fieldhouse, the main competition site for Lock Haven volleyball, basketball, and wrestling, received a modernized design featuring the newest Lock Haven Athletics logo.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The bald eagle emblem directly references the Bald Eagles nickname and the university’s mascot, Talon the Bald Eagle.[6] The crimson and white color scheme is the documented official palette used across Lock Haven athletics branding.[2]
