Palermo FC, the Sicilian club known as the Rosanero for its pink and black colors, has carried a series of distinct visual identities since its founding. The club’s current primary crest, introduced in 2019, is a modern, stylized mark built around an eagle’s head and the letter “P,” replacing the previous shield-style badge.
Design and History
Palermo FC’s visual identity has evolved through several distinct eras. The club’s official history records that the first logo, a blue-and-white shield with a diagonal band bearing the inscription “Palermo Fbc,” was conceived in 1920 by then-president Valentino Colombo. White and blue were the colors of Racing Fbc, a predecessor club. [1]
In 1929, painter Pippo Rizzo, an exponent of Sicilian Futurism from Corleone, designed a diamond-shaped logo with an old-style football at its center. At the time, it was adopted as a symbol of modernity and avant-garde, an alternative to traditional heraldic coats of arms considered too conventional. [2]
The current crest was introduced in 2019 following the club’s refoundation. The design was created by Danilo Li Muli, founding partner and creative director of the Palermo-based agency Gomez & Mortisia, working with the club’s marketing and communications team. [3] The project won the Agorà d’Argento award in 2020. [3]
Li Muli described the concept as a bridge between past and future, combining the “P” of Palermo, the eagle, and simple, clean, contemporary lettering. The shield form was deliberately abandoned to modernize the look and make the logo more versatile for merchandising and international use. [4]
In July 2026, Palermo FC launched a new brand strategy and visual identity system. Developed by the marketing teams of Palermo FC and City Football Group in collaboration with Alkemy+, the project introduced a bespoke typography system and a renewed color palette, but did not replace the existing eagle crest. [5] The identity is built around four concepts: “Mosaic,” “Pink/Black,” “Born to Fly,” and “Appartenenza.” [6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2019 crest combines the eagle, a symbol of the city of Palermo and the club, with the letter “P” for Palermo. Li Muli described the fusion of three elements: the eagle, the P, and the color pink, giving the mark a sense of contemporaneity. [4] The pink and black colors are the club’s traditional social colors, symbols of a historic faith. [3]
In the 2026 brand strategy, “Pink/Black” identifies the contrasts of the city and the club’s history, while “Born to Fly” connects the eagle with ambition. [5] The club’s official history page notes that pink has been the club’s identity for more than a century. [5]
Typography and Design
The 2026 visual identity system introduced three bespoke font families developed specifically for the club. They are designed to intertwine within a “mosaic” system, visually expressing the encounter between different cultures, from Arab-Norman roots to Mediterranean heritage. [5] The system also includes a color palette that reinterprets pink and black while drawing on the unique colors of the city. [5]
