Peliitat Heinola, officially Heinolan Peliitat, is an ice hockey club based in Heinola, Finland. The club was formerly known as Heinolan Kiekko and traces its origins to an earlier club also called Peliitat that went bankrupt, after which Heinolan Kiekko, founded in 1984, became the leading ice hockey club in the town and later adopted the Peliitat name.[1] The team’s official colours are red, white and black.[1]
Design and History
The current Peliitat primary logo has been in use since the 2006/07 season.[2] The mark is a shield-shaped crest, a common format in European ice hockey identity. The crest incorporates the club’s red, white and black palette, with the team name displayed prominently within the shield.
In early March 2012, the club announced it would release a new logo, with the design appearing on the team’s Facebook page as its profile image at that time.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s name “Peliitat” is the Finnish word for “pelicans,” and the town of Heinola is located near Lahti, whose Liiga team is known as the Pelicans.[4]
