EHC Red Bull München, the professional ice hockey club based in Munich, Germany, competes in the PENNY DEL, the country’s top hockey league. The club was founded in 1998 as HC München 98 and was renamed EHC München before Red Bull became its sole shareholder on 1 May 2013, after which it operated under the name EHC Red Bull München.[1]
Design and History
The current club crest was introduced on 11 June 2012, when the club was officially renamed EHC Red Bull München at a fan event held at the Olympia Eishalle.[2] The new logo was presented on a screen in the arena, replacing the club’s previous identity as part of the Red Bull takeover.[2]
The logo features two red bulls charging toward each other beneath an ice hockey stick and the Red Bull wordmark.[2] At the time of the 2012 unveiling, the club was not yet fully owned by Red Bull, and the traditional white-and-blue club emblem continued to appear on jerseys alongside the new mark.[3]
Following the complete takeover in 2013, the old club crest was phased out of the club’s communications, and the new logo, which does not contain the EHC initials, became the primary identity.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The club’s official colors are navy, white, red, and yellow.[5] The club describes navy blue, red, and white as its classic jersey colors.[5] The two charging bulls are a direct reference to the Red Bull corporate brand, which also uses two bulls facing each other as a recognizable trademark.[6]
Typography and Design
The crest includes the Red Bull wordmark above the two bulls, with the club name appearing in the lower portion of the mark.[2] The design follows the visual language used by other Red Bull-owned sports clubs, as noted in contemporary reporting at the time of the logo’s introduction.[3]
