The Texas Stars are the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Dallas Stars, based in Cedar Park, Texas. The team’s visual identity has evolved in two distinct phases, each tied directly to the branding of its NHL parent club.
Design and History
From their inaugural 2009-10 season through 2014-15, the Texas Stars used a gold and green identity. The team’s official history describes this period as holding “this identity of gold and green for six seasons.”[1] During this era, the team’s crest featured a “STARS” wordmark in gold with the “A” designed as a green star.[2]
On June 11, 2015, the Texas Stars unveiled a new logo and color scheme for the 2015-16 season. The new brand adopted the same Victory Green color scheme the Dallas Stars had introduced two years earlier, accented with black, white and silver.[3] The team’s new primary logo was a revised version of the former secondary Texas Stars logo that had been worn on road jerseys during the previous two seasons.[4] The update was described by Texas Stars President Rick McLaughlin as completing a transition into “one unified operation” following the franchise’s purchase by Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi’s group in late 2014.[3]
The 2015 redesign also introduced a new secondary logo: a circular crest with the team name wrapping around the Texas state flag, rendered in the new color scheme. A new wordmark logo was introduced at the same time.[3] The logos were created by the design teams of the Texas Stars, Dallas Stars and Reebok.[2]
In 2021, the Texas Stars updated the green color in their logos to more closely match the Dallas Stars green, described as “a brighter and more vibrant version.”[1] This followed the Dallas Stars’ own adjustment that year, when the NHL club brightened the shade of green used across all of its logos to better match its uniforms.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2015 rebrand was explicitly designed to align the Texas Stars with the Dallas Stars’ identity. Owner Tom Gaglardi stated, “The colors and themes have worked so well in Dallas and they’ve become synonymous with Stars Hockey.”[3] The secondary logo acknowledges the Texas state flag, with the team name in a circular crest wrapping around the flag in the team’s color scheme.[4]
The primary logo’s star motif continues the Stars franchise naming tradition shared between the parent club and its affiliate. The Victory Green color scheme was described by the Dallas Stars as a “vibrant green” introduced during the NHL club’s 2013 rebranding.[6]
Typography and Design
The 2015 primary logo was a modified version of the team’s previous “TEXAS” secondary wordmark, with the “X” replaced by a star.[7] The team had introduced the “TEXAS” wordmark in 2011, and it had been used with increasing frequency in the seasons leading up to the rebrand.[8] The new primary mark was described as a modernized version of that wordmark, intended to fit within the Dallas Stars brand system.[8]
In 2025, the Texas Stars introduced their first alternate jersey since 2011-12, featuring a new “TX” crest with the state’s postal abbreviation beveled in white and silver, matching the construction of the primary logo with green and black outlines.[9]
