Cohesity is an enterprise data security and management company founded in June 2013 by Mohit Aron, who previously co-founded Nutanix and worked on the Google File System. The company emerged from stealth mode in June 2015 with $70 million in venture funding. Its visual identity centers on a wordmark featuring a distinctive green “S” that has evolved through at least two documented brand refreshes.
Design and History
Cohesity’s logo is a typographic wordmark. According to the company’s official logo guidelines, there are four approved versions of the logo, each optimized for different background color use cases. The black and green logo is intended for white or light backgrounds, while a white and green version is used on black or dark backgrounds. All-black and all-white versions are approved for general use, and the guidelines note that it is not mandatory to include the green “S” mark in every application. [1]
The green “S” has been a consistent and iconic element of the Cohesity mark. In a brand refresh led by Clear Digital (formerly WebEnertia), the design team focused on strengthening this element. According to the agency’s case study, the green “S” became more stylized with sharper angles, and an interlocking “C” design was made more clearly interpreted. These shapes were then echoed throughout other parts of the Cohesity visual identity. [2]
Clear Digital also deepened the hue of the signature Cohesity green to make it more functional with text overlays. The previous brand experience was described as more gray, green, and white, and the refresh expanded the palette to include bright secondary colors such as yellow, orange, red, and multiple blues, giving the brand a bolder, more vibrant sensibility. [2]
Following Cohesity’s acquisition of Veritas Technologies in late 2024, the company underwent another brand refresh to unify the two organizations. Creative director work documented on Flatfish describes leading the development of the new visual identity, with a directive to “make it Ownable, make it Bigger, Bolder, and lean into Green.” The refreshed brand debuted at AWS re:Invent 2024 with a Las Vegas takeover. [3] The brand launch agency TMPB2B described the new palette as evolving from Cohesity’s legacy green, lending “an exciting sharpness and alertness to cybersecurity.” [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The most concrete visual element is the green “S,” which the company’s own guidelines treat as an optional but preferred accent mark. [1] The brand refresh agency described the green as a deliberate departure from the historically fear-driven cybersecurity category, which had relied on “cold colors” and “clinical visualizations.” The new palette was intended to present Cohesity as an “innovative protector” rather than a warning. [4]
The Flatfish portfolio notes that the vibrant green “wasn’t just a color, it established the beacon of our renewed presence and brand direction.” [3] No official source documents a specific meaning for the green “S” beyond its role as the brand’s signature visual accent.
Typography and Design
Clear Digital’s case study describes the logo refresh as sharpening angles and clarifying the interlocking “C” design within the wordmark. [2] The official logo guidelines specify usage rules for the four approved color versions but do not publicly identify the typeface used in the wordmark. [1]
