TechRadar is an online technology publication owned by Future plc, covering news, reviews and buying advice for consumer electronics. The site launched in January 2008 with the goal of helping everyday readers navigate technology, and expanded into the US and Australia in 2012. It is now published across 17 international editions. [1]
Design and History
TechRadar underwent a major visual relaunch in July 2023. The publication described the update as remaking “everything from the logo and color scheme to our tagline,” with the new identity built around the promise of “real tech experts, real experience, and real advice for your very real technology world.” [2]
The relaunch also introduced a new tagline, “The Technology Experts,” replacing the previous positioning as “the Source for tech buying advice.” [3] TechRadar stated that the new homepage, logo and colors were designed to help readers find advice and information faster and more effectively, with navigation reorganized around product categories rather than story types. [2]
Industry coverage of the 2023 relaunch noted that the new brand identity highlighted TechRadar’s expert technology content, with the site rebranding under “The Technology Experts” positioning. [4]
Meaning and Symbolism
TechRadar’s current logo incorporates a radar motif, described by the publication itself as its “distinctive pink radar logo” when directing readers to its mobile app. [5] The radar element visually ties the brand name to the concept of scanning and detecting technology trends, though TechRadar has not published an official explanation of the symbol’s meaning beyond its use as the brand’s identifying mark.
Typography and Design
Brand asset databases record TechRadar’s current color palette as including a vivid pink-magenta (approximately #E5188E or #E40784) paired with a deep navy blue (approximately #0D1C33 or #090E21) and a near-white tone. [6] [7] These sources are third-party aggregations, however, and TechRadar has not published an official brand guideline document specifying exact color values or the typeface used in its wordmark.
No designer or agency has been publicly credited for either the original 2008 TechRadar identity or the 2023 relaunch logo. The earlier claim that the original logo was developed internally by Future plc’s design team comes from an unverified logo database and should not be treated as confirmed.
