Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-owned Indian telecommunications company, introduced a new logo on October 22, 2024. Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia unveiled the refreshed identity at a ceremony in New Delhi, alongside the launch of seven new customer services. The new mark replaced the visual identity BSNL had used since its incorporation in September 2000. [1] [2]
Design and History
The 2024 logo redesign changed the color scheme and tagline of the previous mark. The former gray circle was replaced with a saffron one, and the earlier red and blue arrows were changed to white and green, reflecting the colors of the Indian tricolor. The circle also embeds the geographical map of India. [3]
The previous logo, in use since BSNL’s founding in 2000, featured a gray globe circumnavigated by red and blue arrows in opposite directions, with the acronym BSNL in blue and the tagline “Connecting India” below. [4] The new identity replaced “Connecting India” with “Connecting Bharat” and added the motto “Securely, Affordably, and Reliably.” [5]
According to BSNL’s corporate office, the new logo was intended to provide a refreshed identity for the organization and adapt to changing market trends. [6]
Meaning and Symbolism
According to the Ministry of Communications, BSNL’s new logo symbolizes strength, trust, and accessibility. The green and white arrows surrounding India emphasize the company’s expansive nationwide reach, while the vibrant orange backdrop signifies warmth and inclusivity. The bold tagline “Connecting Bharat” highlights BSNL’s mission to bridge the digital divide by offering a modern, reliable telecom network that connects both urban and rural India. [1]
The new logo also reflects the company’s three key goals: to provide services securely, affordably, and reliably. [7]
