Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. (MKI), a Japanese ICT company and subsidiary of Mitsui & Co., operates under a corporate identity that has undergone two documented logo changes since the company’s formation in its current structure. The most recent logo, introduced in December 2025, replaced a mark that had been in use since the company’s establishment in 2007.
Design and History
The current Mitsui Knowledge Industry logo was adopted on December 1, 2025, following a corporate rebranding initiative tied to the company’s purpose statement, “ナレッジでつなぐ、未来をつくる” (“Connecting with knowledge, creating the future”). The new mark visually expresses how multiple blue shapes, symbolizing knowledge, come together and overlap to form the company’s abbreviation “MKI.” The design was developed with the support of branding agency AGEHA Inc., which conducted brand research and interviews before proposing multiple logo concepts. The final design was selected through an employee vote, with results used as a key input for management’s final decision.[1][2]
Prior to this change, Mitsui Knowledge Industry used a logo introduced in 2007, when NextCom K.K. merged with Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. (formerly Mitsui Information Development) to form the current company. That earlier mark was described by the company as symbolizing the integration of NextCom’s network technology and sales capabilities with Mitsui Information Development’s stable customer base, system construction expertise, and operational service strength. The 2007 logo featured a cube design with a pop aesthetic to express flexibility in responding to diverse customer needs, paired with a bold, solid font to convey reliability. The cube combined orange, representing activity and energy, with blue, representing sincerity and intelligence, to express the collaboration between sales and technical capabilities.[3][4]
The 2025 rebranding was motivated by the company’s recognition that the 2007 logo represented the merger of NextCom and Mitsui Information Development, but did not fully reflect subsequent integrations of other group companies or the company’s future direction. The company also noted that the new logo was needed to strengthen internal branding and foster employee engagement with the corporate purpose.[2]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2025 logo incorporates a graphic element called “Knowledge Pixel,” a rectangular shape that symbolizes individual pieces of knowledge. According to the company, the accumulation of many such knowledge pieces coming together represents how Mitsui Knowledge Industry itself is formed. The design is intended to convey a sense of advancement through its sharp forms and coloring.[1][2]
As part of the rebranding, the company also established a new corporate color system. The primary color, named “MKI Honest Blue,” is a deep blue representing sincerity and honesty. Two additional primary colors, “MKI Kindness Blue” and “MKI Advanced Blue,” were defined for use in combination with the corporate color to emphasize the brand’s uniqueness. These colors correspond to three brand voices defined in the company’s brand guidelines: “Honest,” “Kindness,” and “Advanced.”[1][2]
Typography and Design
Documentation for the 2007 logo indicates the wordmark used a bold, solid typeface intended to communicate reliability, paired with the cube symbol. For the 2025 logo, the company has not publicly disclosed the specific typeface used in the wordmark. The brand guidelines developed with AGEHA Inc. extend beyond logo usage rules to approximately 70 pages covering brand philosophy, values, and expression standards, including the application of the Knowledge Pixel element across stationery, office signage, and other materials.[4][2]
