Addepar is a financial technology company founded in 2009 that provides a data and AI platform for wealth management professionals, including advisors, family offices and institutional investors. The company’s visual identity centers on a distinctive letter “A” mark built from two parallelograms, paired with the “ADDEPAR” wordmark.
Design and History
The Addepar logo consists of a stylized letter “A” formed by a parallelogram on the left side and a smaller parallelogram on the right side, accompanied by the word “ADDEPAR.” The mark has been registered in several configurations over time. An early registration from 2012 describes the design as a letter “A” comprised of a right-angled rectangle forming the left side and a smaller left-angled rectangle forming the right side, positioned above the word “ADDEPAR.”[1] A later application from 2018 describes the same “A” design placed to the left of the wordmark.[2] The standalone “A” symbol, without the wordmark, was also registered separately.[3]
In 2016, Addepar’s in-house design team produced a 114-page book titled “Addepar Form Studies,” which collected explorations of compositions derived from the company’s logo. The book served as both a library of visual concepts for the brand identity and a reference for design process and methods. The project was designed by Nick D’Amico, Ryan Smith and Craig Gephart, with typography set in Gotham and Univers.[4]
San Francisco-based design studio Teak has documented work on Addepar’s brand narrative, visual identity and B2B marketing suite, describing the goal as mirroring Addepar’s mission to simplify finance and champion stability and equity.[5]
In September 2024, Addepar announced a platform-wide visual redesign. While the company described it as “a complete aesthetic transformation” of its user interface, the redesign focused on the product experience rather than the corporate logo. The update introduced a new visual signature using shades of gray to create depth, a new elevation system, and font and color enhancements across the platform.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
Addepar’s trademark filings do not claim color as a feature of the mark, and no official documentation of symbolic meaning for the parallelogram “A” has been published. The company’s stated founding goal was “creating a more transparent financial system,” with a belief that everyone should be able to understand the assets they own, where they’re invested and how they’re performing at any given moment.[7] The geometric construction of the mark, built from angular parallelograms, is documented only through the trademark descriptions themselves.
Typography and Design
Documented typography associated with Addepar’s identity comes from two sources. The 2016 Form Studies book used Gotham and Univers typefaces.[4] In the 2024 platform redesign, Addepar switched its display font from Tiempos Headline Regular to Tiempos Headline Light for a “more mature, editorial feel,” and updated OpenType settings for Inter, its body font, adjusting tracking and specific glyph appearances.[6]
