Mercedes-Benz Bank AG is the financial services subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. The bank’s visual identity is built directly on the parent company’s brand system, using the Mercedes-Benz wordmark and three-pointed star rather than a standalone emblem.
Design and History
The current Mercedes-Benz Bank logo is a horizontal lockup that pairs the Mercedes-Benz wordmark with the brand’s three-pointed star. The logo file is identified as “Mercedes-Benz Bank 2022.svg,” indicating a version introduced in 2022, the same year the parent company Daimler AG was renamed Mercedes-Benz Group AG on February 1, 2022.[1][2][3]
The bank was founded in 2001 under the name DaimlerChrysler Bank and received a universal banking license in 2002. It was renamed Mercedes-Benz Bank in 2008, following the parent company’s own rebranding from DaimlerChrysler to Daimler AG.[4][5]
The bank operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and is described by its parent company as one of the leading car banks in Germany.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star has been in use since 1909 and was registered as a trademark in 1923. In 1926, when Mercedes and Benz merged, the star was placed within Benz’s laurel wreath, creating the emblem still associated with the brand today.[7] The Mercedes-Benz wordmark itself is custom lettering, drawn specifically for the brand rather than set in a stock typeface.[8]
