Avidia Bank is a community bank headquartered in Hudson, Massachusetts, formed in 2007 through the merger of Hudson Savings Bank and Westborough Bank, both founded in 1869.[1] The bank’s visual identity has evolved through two distinct phases: an original mark created at the time of the merger, and a refreshed identity introduced in 2019.
Design and History
The Avidia name and original logo were created in 2007 by BrandEquity of Newton, Massachusetts, a visual marketing and brand communications firm.[2][3] The name derives from the root word “avid,” meaning enthusiastic and eager, combined with the ending of the word “idea.”[4] BrandEquity also selected the orange hue used in the original logo.[5] The branding was designed to avoid being tied to a single geographic area, reflecting the newly merged bank’s broader regional ambitions.[6]
In mid-2019, Avidia Bank underwent a rebranding that included updating its logo, adopting new color schemes, and introducing the tagline “Honest to Goodness.”[7] The rebrand was part of a broader repositioning effort led by the Boston agency Zozimus, which refreshed the bank’s visual brand to be “distinctive, friendly and accessible.”[8] The campaign introduced animated characters, including a spokespig named Max, to support the new identity.[9]
Meaning and Symbolism
The name “Avidia” combines “avid,” meaning enthusiastic or eager, with “idea,” signaling a forward-looking, energetic approach to banking.[4] The orange hue selected by BrandEquity for the original logo became a defining element of the bank’s visual identity.[5] The 2019 rebrand centered on the “Honest to Goodness” tagline, which the bank describes as a commitment to straightforward communication and humility in an industry often characterized by self-promotion.[1]
Typography and Design
The current Avidia Bank logo is a wordmark featuring the bank’s name in a custom letterform. Brandfetch lists the brand’s primary color as a vivid orange with the hex code #FF7E3E.[10] The 2019 refresh, executed by Zozimus, aimed to make the visual identity more approachable and distinctive within the banking category.[8] The bank’s website and marketing materials consistently use the orange color scheme, which has become closely associated with the brand.[11]
