Bank Central Asia (BCA) is an Indonesian private bank headquartered in Jakarta, operating since 21 February 1957. Its visual identity is built around a clove flower symbol, a motif that has been part of the bank’s logo for decades. The current logo, in use since 1995, combines the clove mark with the wordmark “BCA” and the text “Grup BCA” below it.
Design and History
The BCA logo consists of two main parts: a logo mark depicting a clove flower and a logotype reading “BCA.” The clove motif has been in continuous use since 1970, when the bank adopted a five-petal flower design. Over the years, the details of the mark evolved. In 1990, the logo appeared with the text “BCA Grup” beneath it, enclosed in a slightly curved box. In 1995, the wording was changed to “Grup BCA,” and this version has remained in use to the present day. [1]
The clove symbol is also referenced in official BCA communications. The bank’s syariah subsidiary, BCA Syariah, describes its own logo as incorporating the “BCA Clove Logo” to signal that it is part of the BCA Group. [2]
In July 2026, BCA issued a statement clarifying that maintenance work on the logo displayed on the Menara BCA building was routine upkeep of a company asset, and that there were no design changes, rebranding, or replacements of the company logo. [3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The clove flower in the BCA logo is directly tied to the bank’s early business history. BCA’s founder, Liem Sioe Liong, built his business empire partly through a clove monopoly, alongside flour and cement ventures. This connection is cited as the reason the logo, in use since 1977, features a clove motif. [4]
BCA Syariah’s official logo description confirms that the clove element is a recognized part of the BCA brand system, used to convey affiliation with the BCA Group and to uphold the positive image established for the group. [2]
Typography and Design
The BCA Syariah logo description notes that the font used in its identity was chosen to convey elegance, friendliness, firmness, and humility. [2] This description applies to the BCA Syariah subsidiary’s logo, which incorporates the BCA Clove Logo and BCA Logo elements. No official documentation of the typography used in the parent BCA logo itself was found in the available research.
