Ingenico is a French payment technology company founded in 1980 by Jean-Jacques Poutrel and Michel Malhouitre, known for its payment terminals and payment services.[1] The company’s visual identity has undergone two documented transformations, most recently in 2014 when it rebranded as Ingenico Group.
Design and History
In 2000, Ingenico redesigned its logo to feature an arobase (the “@” symbol) formed around the letter “e” in the company name.[2] This mark reflected the company’s evolving mission at the time.
On June 4, 2014, Ingenico announced a rebranding and the launch of a new visual identity, operating under the new corporate brand name “Ingenico Group.”[3] The new identity was designed by the agency Unlimi-ted.[3] The redesign removed the red elliptical shape that had been part of the previous logo, replacing it with a straightforward typographic wordmark.[4]
According to the company, the logo was redesigned “to convey global brand stature and express visually the end to end value proposition whatever the channel to market.”[3] CEO Philippe Lazare explained that the Group’s rapid growth had resulted in a fragmented brand architecture, and the new positioning was intended to streamline and simplify the brand while reinforcing consistency across all geographies.[3]
The rebranding accompanied a new tagline, “global leader in seamless payment,” and the introduction of three commercial sub-brands: Ingenico Smart Terminals, Ingenico Payment Services, and Ingenico Mobile Solutions.[3]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2014 logo was designed to express the company’s evolution from a payment terminals provider to a seamless payment services provider.[3] The typographic approach, which removed the previous red elliptical element, placed the brand name itself at the center of the identity.[4]
In 2020, Ingenico joined Worldline, and in 2022, Worldline announced the completion of Ingenico’s acquisition by Apollo Global Management.[1] The company continues to operate under the Ingenico name, and its official media kit offers downloadable logos and brand guidelines.[5]
