Sacyr is a Spanish multinational group active in engineering and infrastructure, concessions, services, and industrial construction. Its visual identity has undergone two significant documented redesigns in the 21st century, most recently in 2018 when the company introduced a new logomark and corporate tagline.
Design and History
In July 2012, Sacyr presented a new logo following its decision to drop “Vallehermoso” from its corporate name. The new mark included only the term “SACYR,” maintained white letters on a blue background, but introduced a new typography and emphasized the letterforms. The change reflected a new strategic phase for the company, coinciding with the reduction of its residential development business carried under the Vallehermoso name. The company explained the move as a way to make the brand simpler, using a short, recognized name to which divisions such as Sacyr Concesiones or Sacyr Industrial could be easily appended.[1][2]
In March 2018, Sacyr launched a new corporate identity, developed with the branding agency Superunion.[3] The new logomark, in blue and aquamarine, included the new corporate tagline “Desafíos cumplidos” (“Challenges accomplished”). The design reflected Sacyr’s spirit of transformation through a twist in the shapes and a change of color in each of the letters, with experience and rigor defined through the details of the letterform terminations.[4][5]
The 2018 identity partially abandoned the traditional dark blue in favor of aquamarine traces and softened the typography of the company name.[4] The redesign accompanied a brand architecture that unified the group’s companies under a single focus, with Sacyr Construcción becoming Sacyr Ingeniería e Infraestructuras, and the services activity operating as Valoriza Servicios in Spain but Sacyr Servicios internationally.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2018 identity was built around the concept of transformation, highlighting Sacyr’s ability to turn challenges into opportunities and solutions, drawing on its 30 years of experience. The tagline “Desafíos cumplidos” reflected the company’s positioning as “a solution for every challenge.”[3][6] The new identity was intended to offer “a solid image of what Sacyr is today and what it projects toward the future,” reflecting the company’s legacy, experience, rigor, and spirit of transformation.[4]
Typography and Design
For the 2018 identity, the corporate typeface chosen was Akkurat Pro, with Arial used as the system and substitute font.[5][6] The new color palette, described as “Azul Sacyr” and “Aqua Sacyr,” maintained a link with the previous logo while renewing the design through a twist in the forms and a change of color in each letter.[3]
