Ecko Unltd.’s visual identity centres on a rhinoceros mark paired with the brand name. The animal appears inside a rounded badge, alongside a lowercase wordmark; other contemporary brand materials style the name as “ECKŌ UNLTD.” The rhino is more than a single lockup: it is the recurring emblem used to identify the label.

Meaning and history
Marc Eckō founded the brand in 1993, beginning with six T-shirts designed around a spray-paint can, according to Iconix International’s account of the label’s anniversary. The brand grew from graffiti, hip-hop and skate culture, a context reflected in its graphic identity. The rhinoceros was adopted after launch, rather than appearing on those first shirts.
In a WWD profile, Eckō said he wanted a distinctive alternative to the graffiti-style lettering used by competing labels. He connected the choice to the wooden and miniature rhinoceroses collected by his father, which he played with as a child. Explaining the animal’s character, he described it as clumsy and said it “can’t walk backwards,” relating those traits to the company. Iconix International later described the rhino as a symbol of perseverance and survival.
The brand’s ownership changed while its rhinoceros identity continued. Shop Eat Surf reported that Iconix acquired a 51 percent stake in the trademark-holding venture in 2009. In May 2013, Iconix announced that it had acquired the remaining 49 percent of IP Holdings Unltd LLC for $45 million; its release identified Marc Ecko Enterprises as the core apparel licensee. The 2014 Chapter 11 filing concerned a principal licensee and retail operator, not the brand’s trademark ownership, according to the account summarized by Wikipedia.
1993 – Today

The heading spans the brand’s history, but the image should not be read as proof that this exact artwork dates to 1993. Visually, this version pairs the rhino badge with the lowercase “ecko unltd.” name in red on a light background. The first image uses a similar lockup in red against black. These are closely related presentations of the same identity, not evidence of separate dated redesigns.
Recent activity confirms that the rhinoceros remains part of the brand’s identity. FashionUnited describes Ecko Unltd. as Iconix-owned and identifies the rhino as its logo; a 2025 campaign announcement, reported by CB Insights, called it the “World Famous Rhino” and promoted a Jalen Williams capsule for spring 2026. Iconix International’s 2024 anniversary announcement also documented a capsule developed with Marc Eckō, tying the mark’s current life to the founder’s continuing collaboration.
Emblem

This example sets the rhinoceros badge apart from the wordmark: the emblem appears in a red block, while the lettering is outlined beside it. The animal is shown in profile within a rounded enclosure, with white divisions visible across the badge. The image offers another treatment of the same rhino identity rather than a separate historical stage.
The rhino’s colour is not limited to a single palette. One is red against black, another red against white, and the emblem example combines red, white and black. A 2025 Bershka collaboration also used red, grey, white and navy in its printed pieces; that collection-specific palette does not establish a fixed colour system for the logo.
From its documented beginnings as a streetwear label in 1993 to recent campaign activity, Ecko Unltd. has continued to use the rhinoceros as its identifying emblem. The wordmark’s styling and the mark’s colour can vary, while the animal remains the most consistent visual feature.
