Geox is an Italian footwear and apparel brand whose identity is closely associated with its breathable footwear technology. Founder Mario Moretti Polegato developed the idea after perforating the soles of his shoes during a trip to Reno; the company commercialized Geox footwear in 1995. CNN recounts the origin story, and the Borsa Italiana prospectus records the company’s early business milestones.
Meaning and history

Geox explains its name as “geo,” from the Greek word for earth, combined with “X,” a reference to advanced technology. The company gives this explanation in its 2024 annual report. The name itself supplies the wordmark’s central feature: the four-letter GEOX signature.
1995 – 2003

This stage image shows an outlined, angular wordmark, with the letters joined into a compact, slanted form. It contrasts sharply with the simpler block lettering in the later stage image. The heading dates this version to 1995–2003; the image supports the visual comparison, while the company’s documented early milestones include the 1995 commercialization of Geox footwear and its 1999 acquisition of a footwear-distribution business from Pol Scarpe. The prospectus also records a 2001 contribution of Geox trademarks and patents to the company.
2003 – Today

Here the letters are bold, uppercase and arranged on a level baseline. Compared with the preceding outlined treatment, the mark is more compact and regular, with no separate pictorial symbol. The heading labels this stage “2003 – Today”; Geox’s recent corporate reporting also uses the uppercase GEOX wordmark. The company’s 2024 annual report and 2026 filing provide recent evidence of that identity.
Current emblem

This image places “Respira” beneath GEOX. Geox uses Respira as a brand claim associated with its innovation and research, rather than as a separate symbol. In reporting on the company’s 2025–2029 Renaissance plan, ItaliaOggi described plans to strengthen the Respira brand identity. The image shows the two words together, while the company’s current wordmark remains the uppercase GEOX signature.
Wordmark and brand language
The identity is typographic: GEOX appears as a wordmark without an accompanying pictogram in the stage image. The early outlined treatment and the later bold uppercase form make the principal change in this visual sequence. The supplied images do not establish a typeface or a complete color system, so the comparison rests on the visible letterforms rather than a claimed font or palette.
Geox began with children’s footwear before expanding into men’s and women’s ranges, according to the company’s reporting. That product context helps explain why the name and the breathing-technology claim are prominent parts of its brand language, while the wordmark itself remains concise.
