RKW Seminare is the seminar and continuing education arm of the RKW (Rationalisierungs- und Innovationszentrum der Deutschen Wirtschaft), a German non-profit organization founded in 1921 that provides impulse and advisory services for small and medium-sized enterprises.[1] The RKW’s regional organizations offer seminars, training, and workshops under the RKW Seminare banner, with a nationwide catalog of around 8,000 courses available through the RKW Campus platform.[2]
Design and History
The RKW’s visual identity was developed by the Stuttgart graphic design studio Stankowski + Duschek, the atelier of Anton Stankowski and Karl Duschek. In 1990, the studio produced the “Richtlinien für das einheitliche Erscheinungsbild des RKW” (Guidelines for the Uniform Visual Identity of the RKW), a corporate design manual commissioned by the RKW’s Baden-Württemberg regional group, with Ulrike Braun contributing to the project.[3][4]
Stankowski, a pioneer of functional graphic design, was known for logos that combined artistic aesthetics with clear information conveyance. He and Duschek preferred the terms “Marke” or “Signet” over the modern word “logo.”[5] The studio’s work for the RKW fits within a broader portfolio that included the Deutsche Bank sign (1974), the Viessmann and REWE trademarks, and the SEL symbol.[6]
Meaning and Symbolism
The RKW signet features an orange geometric element as its core mark. The corporate design guidelines for the RKW Sachsen regional organization specify that the logo’s protective space must be at least 66 percent of the total logo height, which corresponds to exactly twice the total height of the orange logo element.[7] The official house color is specified as Orange HKS 10, with CMYK values of 0/85/100/0 and RGB values of 230/68/21.[7]
Regional RKW organizations use the parent mark with their own regional designation. For example, the RKW Sachsen logo combines the orange RKW signet with the wordmark “Sachsen” beneath it, and the guidelines state that the wordmark may not be used alone without the signet.[7]
Typography and Design
The RKW Sachsen corporate design guidelines specify that the logo must not fall below a height of 11 mm for optimal legibility, with the “Sachsen” title set at 6 point as the minimum recommended type size. The logo is to be used exclusively on a white background, never on colored surfaces, photographs, or with insufficient protective space.[7] The house colors also include two shades of black (65% and 35%) used as secondary tones in the identity system.[7]
Logo Index is an independent educational archive covering logos, visual identities and graphic design history. All trademarks and brand assets remain the property of their respective owners.
