The Nemetschek Group is a Munich-based software provider for the architecture, engineering, construction, operations and 3D animation industries. Its visual identity has undergone two documented corporate redesigns, in 2008 and 2014, with the current logo introduced as part of the latter rebrand.
Design and History
In March 2008, Nemetschek AG launched a new brand image centered on the slogan “moving minds” and a horizon as the key visual. The logo was described as reflecting the group’s diversity, with the company name connected to horizontal graphics whose colors reflected the variety of solutions across the group. The umbrella brand logo was applied internationally and used together with the “moving minds” slogan to represent the diversity of the group and the individuality of each product brand. The horizon as key visual was said to symbolize the opening of new possibilities and room for unrestricted design freedom. The German agency FGK developed the umbrella brand with the “Moving Minds” claim, deriving the individual product brand logos from the corporate mark. As part of this 2008 relaunch, subsidiary Nemetschek Allplan adopted dark red as its signature color, while Nemetschek Scia adopted dark blue. [1] [2] [3] [4]
In December 2014, the Nemetschek Group presented a new corporate design, with the new logo and a redesigned website as its main elements. The rebrand reinforced the group’s alignment as an internationally leading software provider for the entire life cycle of buildings. [5] [6]
The 2014 redesign was driven by the company’s acquisition strategy. The previous logo was colorful, with each vertical bar representing a subsidiary. As the holding company participated in more acquisitions, this approach became difficult to maintain, and the previous mark also presented challenges when used across different media. The new logo was designed to be timeless and simple yet strong, allowing each subsidiary to retain its own brand standards while adopting a modifier to reinforce its tie to the Nemetschek Group. [7]
Meaning and Symbolism
The 2008 logo’s horizontal graphics used color to reflect the diversity of solutions across the group, which covered the entire life cycle of buildings. The “moving minds” slogan represented the diversity of the group and the individuality of every product brand. [1] [4]
The current logo, introduced in 2014, moved away from the colorful vertical bars of the previous mark. The redesign prioritized simplicity and strength in the parent logo, with a flexible, clear and unobtrusive modifier for subsidiary lockups. [7]
