Vinci is a French concessions, energy and construction group whose current corporate logo combines a wordmark with two red “connector” symbols. The mark was introduced in 2000 when the company, then known as Société Générale d’Entreprises (SGE), changed its name to Vinci.
Design and History
The Vinci logo was launched on 20 April 2000, when the SGE group announced it was changing its name to Vinci. The new name was accompanied by “an original visual identity” built around the connector symbol, described at the time as both an imprint of cathedral builders and a symbol of networks and information technologies.[1]
The name Vinci was invented by the NOMEN agency, led by Marcel Botton, which was credited with giving the group and its subsidiaries “new ambition, an international dimension and a European identity.”[2] The name references Leonardo da Vinci, the artist, scientist and engineer, who symbolizes innovation, creativity and technological mastery.[3]
According to Vinci’s official media library, the logo is made up of “connectors” that were used by cathedral builders to fasten stones together. The symbol represents sustainable construction designed to last, while its contemporary design also evokes the world of networks and information technologies, as well as the interconnection of the group’s expertise.[4]
Before the 2000 rebrand, the previous SGE logo depicted white helicopter blades on a red background. The new graphic charter inverted the colors while reusing the same logo with a mirror effect relative to the previous one, creating a symbolic continuity in color and stylization.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The two connector elements in the logo symbolize the strength and unity of a diverse range of business streams working together.[3] The symbol also represents the durability of construction and the global network of connections that enables the exchange of specialist knowledge within the Vinci group.[6]
The logo uses blue and red, which are described as Vinci’s historical colors. In 2024, the design agency Seenk redesigned the brand architecture for Vinci Construction, drawing inspiration from these historical red and blue colors for new symbols that accompanied a new typography.[7]
Typography and Design
The Vinci logo consists of a wordmark element alongside the two connector symbols.[3] In the 2024 brand architecture work for Vinci Construction, Seenk introduced a new typography designed to ensure impact and recognition for each entity within the group.[7]
