Unger Steel Group is an Austrian steel construction, general contracting and real estate company headquartered in Oberwart, Burgenland. Founded in 1952 as a locksmith’s shop by Josef Unger Sen., the family business expanded under Josef Unger Jun. and now operates internationally with production facilities in Austria and the United Arab Emirates.[1]
Design and History
The current Unger Steel Group logo consists of the black, stylized wordmark “UNGER” placed within a solid blue, incomplete polygon. Both black and blue are claimed as features of the mark in the company’s trademark filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.[2]
The company’s official corporate design guidelines define the primary brand color, “Unger Blau,” with the specifications CMYK 100/43/0/0, RGB 0/102/204, Pantone 300C, and RAL approximately 5009 Azurblau. The guidelines also define a deep black (CMYK 100/100/100/95, RAL 9005 Tiefschwarz) and a white tone (CMYK 3/0/0/0) as part of the brand palette.[3]
The corporate design document notes that the logo version paired with the website wordmark (designated “Variante 1”) is the primary and binding version for general use.[3]
The UNGER trademark covering the logo was filed with the USPTO on October 27, 2021, by Unger Stahlbau Ges.m.b.H., the legal entity behind the Unger Steel Group.[4]
Meaning and Symbolism
The incomplete polygon surrounding the UNGER wordmark is described in the trademark filing as a solid blue shape, but no official source documents a specific symbolic meaning for the form. The company’s own materials describe the brand as representing “quality, customer focus, flexibility and delivery reliability,” though this statement refers to the company’s positioning rather than to an interpretation of the logo’s geometry.[1]
Typography and Design
The wordmark in the trademark filing is described as “stylized wording,” indicating a custom letterform treatment rather than a standard typeface.[2] The company’s corporate design guidelines specify that the logo with the website wordmark is the binding primary version, but they do not publicly document the typeface used in the wordmark.[3]
