CCCC, the China Communications Construction Company, is a Chinese state-owned infrastructure conglomerate specializing in port, highway, bridge, tunnel, railway and airport engineering. Its corporate logo is a blue abstract mark built from four letter “C” shapes, a design that has served as the company’s unified visual identity since its introduction in November 2006.
Design and History
CCCC was incorporated on 8 October 2006 as a joint-stock company initiated by China Communications Construction Group (CCCG), and its H shares were listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 15 December 2006.[1] On 9 November 2006, the company held a launch event in Beijing announcing that its new logo and visual identity system would be adopted uniformly across all its subsidiaries from that date.[2]
The logo graphic is derived from the Chinese oracle bone script character “行” (xing, meaning “to travel” or “to go”), formed by combining the four initial letters “C” from the company’s English name CHINA COMMUNICATIONS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY. The design was artistically processed to create a mark with the “行” character as its main structure, reflecting the company’s professional focus on transportation infrastructure construction.[3][4]
In 2012, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce approved the logo as a registered trademark of China Communications Construction Company Limited.[5]
Meaning and Symbolism
The logo uses a circle as a backdrop that supports the “行” character structure, symbolizing the company’s ambition to become an international enterprise and to “travel the world, and the world travels” (行天下、天下行). A square block in the center represents adherence to scientific management principles and corporate spirit. The combination of circle and square, described as “round outside, square inside” (外圆内方), expresses an attitude of making friends widely, creating value and pursuing win-win cooperation.[3][4]
The mark is predominantly blue, representing civilization and harmony. Horizontal and vertical straight lines serve as the main design elements, conveying a solemn and rigorous style, while variations in line length add dynamism and vitality. The blue-and-white color contrast enhances the logo’s three-dimensional and modern feel.[3][4]
Company materials describe the standard color as “中交蓝” (CCCC Blue),[4] with other sources describing a deep blue standard color that symbolizes the company’s high-tech, modern, foundational and large-scale characteristics as a leading enterprise in China’s transportation infrastructure industry.[6][7]
Typography and Design
The logo combines the “行” character graphic with the Chinese brand name “中交” (Zhongjiao) and the English name CHINA COMMUNICATIONS CONSTRUCTION.[8] The design draws on the cultural heritage of Chinese oracle bone script while incorporating modern concepts of science, innovation, standardization and win-win cooperation, presenting a modernized and internationalized corporate image.[3]
